I think everything depends on the moment and situation. I was doing my side hustle very well while working on a job that wouldn't drain all my energy, but when I changed jobs I realized to have no head to work on anything else after working hours.
So, in many cases changing jobs is better than quitting.
Regarding relationship, friends and family, I think it is always important to allocate some time for them. I know your situation was different.
